Description

Magnesium Oxide (MgO has other names as Magnesia and Periclase. It is a white color powder.
Magnesium oxide (MgO) is used in laser filter glass and optical ceramics, pharmaceuticals, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), electronics and raw material for synthesis of other ceramics. It is also used as a food additive and color stabilizer.
High purity Magnesium oxide is used to grow single crystals, and then to make substrates from the crystals. They are used widely for various thin film applications and as optical windows such as:

  • MgO Substrate for high temperature superconducting film formation, such as YBCO film (filter used for communication and space observation)
  • MgO Substrate for ferroelectric film formation, such as PZT film (infrared ray sensor used for thermometer and thermoregulator)
  • MgO for diamond growth
  • MgO Substrate for magnetic film formation (MRAM, TMR)
  • MgO crystal or optical window with anti-reflective (AR) coating
