Cadmium selenide (CdSe) is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CdSe. It appears as a black to redblack solid and is classified as an ntype II–VI semiconductor.
CdSe is transparent to infrared (IR) light and has been used in photoresistors and in IRtransmitting windows for optical instruments. The material is also highly luminescent, capable of converting various forms of energy into electromagnetic radiation beyond simple thermal emission.
Highpurity CdSe is widely used as a source material for Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) in semiconductor research and production, including the growth of CdSe quantum dots and other advanced optoelectronic structures.
